Reviewing several real-life technology applications in a healthcare setting highlights the benefits of harnessing AI.
Case 1
Client
Large company managing numerous outpatient clinics in the US. They required a custom Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with easy input, intelligent storage, and the ability to display patient data in a digital format.
Challenge
Existing Electronic Health Records (EHRs) were based on a one-size-fits-all approach created for generalist clinics and insurance companies. They failed to consider the unique needs of different healthcare providers and individual clinicians’ workflows. The challenge was creating an EHR solution that simplified a complex workflow and built-in telehealth features to enable further growth.
Solution
IT Medical developed a custom cloud solution to automate the following business processes:
- scheduling patient appointments
- managing reminders and cancellations
- storing medical records/notes
- invoicing, and more.
The system enables users to store a medical entry for 5-28 years, making the volume of processed data reasonably large.
Previously, patients with certain conditions had to be monitored constantly, and frequent home visits were conducted. However, remote consultations are now possible via a secure HIPAA-compliant portal, and in-person consultations are not always required.
Results
Remote consultations are now possible via a secure HIPAA-compliant portal, which minimizes readmission rates. The solution is currently used by 700+ healthcare employees from 30+ medical institutions across the USA, with over 1,000 therapy orders created monthly.
The IT Medical team continues to enhance the platform, constantly adding new features and integrations with input from laboratories and insurance companies and as more clinics adopt the system.
Case 2
Client
Large UK-based company specializing in clinical and residential care. They operate several care homes and provide mental health rehabilitative services.
Challenge
The client needed a custom Patient Management System (PMS) with several subsystems. The PMS aimed to help control and analyze medication intake as well as collect data on treatment dynamics for each patient. The accumulated information would then support selecting and recommending a suitable treatment for each patient, facilitating care providers’ decision-making.
Solution
Within ten months, the IT Medical product team developed a cloud-based application. This allowed care home staff to effectively manage their tasks and performance, including monitoring, tracking, analysis, and reporting. The application included an API so other parts of this in-progress ecosystem could interact with the solution.
The system supports an unlimited number of automatic tasks and the possibility of automated assignee selection. Auto-tasks are preconfigured in the admin panel and activated when triggered inside the system or by an external source via the API. Tasks can be allocated to as many employees as required, with one primary employee managing the process.
Results
With 1,000s of predefined tasks and automations, the solution accelerated existing workflows and increased productivity. The improvements have led to a 2x cost reduction at the agency’s care homes.
Case 3
Client
Leading dental clinic in Singapore with several locations. They provide services to local healthcare companies and generate over $10 million in sales annually.
Challenge
The client’s platform was outdated and limited in capacity. The goal was to better support the link between patients, physicians, and pharmacies. They required additional features to cover the highest quality standards in the industry. The solution needed to optimize and modernize the current platform capabilities, addressing a number of critical business and architectural challenges, and introducing new modules and features.
Solution
The IT Medical team developed iOS and Android mobile applications that securely connect the patient’s nurses in remote areas with the client’s doctors via video, audio, or text chat. Our team also developed a web portal for managing video conferences, users, and patient cases.
Since the client needed to provide doctors in various locations with maximum capability for remote examinations, we made it possible for patients to upload and store high-resolution videos and photos taken by them, which they attached directly to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in the mobile application or patient portal. Patients can also upload external examinations and laboratory results.
Results
High-resolution image and video quality, 3x faster case creation compared to legacy processes, and fully HIPAA-compliant patient data management are just a few of the important benefits of our work for this client. The solution is now being distributed by our client to their partner hospitals along with iOS and Android devices to run the application.
Looking Ahead
From giving doctors more time to focus on patients and revolutionizing treatment plans to contributing to public health, AI is a formidable ally in the quest for better patient outcomes.
Healthcare providers are encouraged to embrace AI technologies, recognizing them not as replacements but as partners in delivering high-quality, patient-centric care. The future of healthcare is intertwined with the possibilities presented by AI, and the journey towards a healthier tomorrow begins with integration
